I'm going to answer the questions Linda from All & Sundry posted in a quiz for my entry today.
1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before? Enjoyed living with a one year old boy.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I didn't make resolutions last year, but this year mine is going to be to write/blog on a regular basis.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes, my sister's best friend had a boy in May.
4. Did anyone close to you die? Well, maybe not close to me, but it affected me quite a bit anyway. A childhood friend's dad died suddenly of a heart attack at age 62. Really made me think of my parent's age and mortality.
5. What countries did you visit? Somehow I only left my state twice this year! To visit a city in a neighboring state! That is shocking to me. We used to travel all of the time. I guess having a toddler and no money kind of cuts down on the travel.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? More sleep! Probably not going to happen considering #2 is due in July.
7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? The last week of July we took a wonderful family vacation with my parents and sister and brother-in-law. We stayed at a house on Lake Michigan and had a great time.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Managing a very difficult new contract at work, which required me to learn a ton of information quickly, work a lot of hours, and supervise more people than normal.
9. What was your biggest failure? Between enormous pressures at work and the daily challenges of raising a toddler, I didn't spend a lot of time on my relationships with my husband or friends. I hope to concentrate more on those relationships in 2009--for all of our health and sanity.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Nothing out of the ordinary, which is a fantastic year for me!
11. What was the best thing you bought? Just got it yesterday--a glowing, soft music playing seahorse for Will's crib. Perhaps too early to say it's the BEST thing I bought in 2008, but he did sleep ALL night through with it. Besides that, I'd say our $5 sprinkler from Target. Will and his best friend spent many, many afternoons running through it this summer.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Barack Obama!
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Sarah Palin!
14. Where did most of your money go? Baby upkeep, especially day care costs.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? The election.
16. What song will always remind you of 2008? Sadly, I can't get Laurie Berkner songs out of my head long enough to think of anything popular with the over-2 crowd.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier.
b) thinner or fatter? Fatter.
c) richer or poorer? Poorer.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of? Hired a babysitter and gone out with my husband and friends.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Watching Elmo.
20. How did you spend Christmas? With my family at my parent's house. We had a lovely time and it was great to see Will get the concept of Christmas and presents and Santa. We did leave a day early due to bad sleeping conditions--i.e. Will refusing to nap or sleep at all.
21. Did you fall in love in 2008? Maybe more in love with my kid?
22. What was your favorite TV program? Lost, Project Runway, The Office and 30 Rock.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? Yes. Someone I work with. Last year I felt dislike towards her...it has blossomed into full scale hate.
24. What was the best book you read? I read so many great books this year and it's incredibly hard to chose one. Maybe the most recent best book I read is When Will There be Good News by Kate Atkinson.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery? Los Campesinos. LOVE them.
26. What did you want and get? I wanted very much to get pregnant again and it happened.
27. What did you want and not get? A raise. However, I think it may be in the works for 2009. We'll see.
28. What was your favorite film of this year? I saw tons of crap this year through NetFlix. However, I did love "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" by Woody Allen.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 34. I left work early, had an amazing hour long massage and then met my husband out for a great dinner. A really nice day.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? More respect from my immediate supervisor at work.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? Hahahahahahaha!!! I would describe it as wearing clothes fashionable in 2005 or before.
32. What kept you sane? Wine.
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? I'm in love with all of the men on Lost.
34. What political issue stirred you the most? The election in general, and the mortgage crisis in particular because housing is what I do for a living.
35. Who did you miss? My grandmother.
36. Who was the best new person you met? I don't know if this really counts, but an old college friend moved back to town and we've become friends again after losing touch for years. She feels like a new friend to me.
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008. Work is not the most important thing in life.
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. I'm so lame. I can't think of anything. The only song going through my head is "Gold Digger!" I do want more money...
