We spent the morning running through the sprinkler and our little kiddie pool, as it was a blistering and almost unheard of 94 degrees here by 10 a.m. It feels much more like August than June, and I love it. We have a backyard that is half shaded and half sun, so it works very well for frenetic water activity and then cool drinks on the deck. Repeat numerous times until exhaustion sets in. Now the kids are down for a well deserved nap, and I am planning to sit on our screen porch and make a dent in the pile that I accumulated from the library and a friend this week.
Not the best picture, but I'm about halfway through the new Laura Lippman, and the Sarah Waters Fingersmith is next. Then maybe the Louise Erdrich. I have a bad habit of reading more than one book at a time, so that's probably what will end up happening. Sounds like a perfect way to spend a hot summer day, huh? What are you reading?
I love Laura Lippman but that newest one didn't rope me in quick enough. I probably would have eventually gotten into it but it was due back at the library and I couldn't renew it. I'm excited to hear what you think.
Right now I'm reading Laurie Colwin's Home Cooking, and you know what, now that I think about it -- it may have been on your recommendation?? (I fell down an internet book reco rabbit hole the other day!) Anyway, it is FANTASTIC! If it was your reco, thanks! If not -- read it! ;)
(Also recently enjoyed: Both of Susan Casey's books. Worth a read.)

Oh, Home Cooking is so good! I'm glad you love it too. I really liked the Laura Lippman--which surprised me. I love her Tess Monaghan series, but I haven't really gotten into her stand alone books until this one. Thanks for the Susan Casey recommendation. I haven't read any by her yet--excited for something new!

oh, I really enjoyed Susan Casey's books too!
I just finished a Georgette Heyer - my go-to light reading - usually regency romance. also Carolyn Parkhurst's latest, The Nobodies Album, which I recommend. Rereading AS Byatt's Virgin in the garden and also a strange little book called the changeling by Joy Williams. always, always have several books going at once.

Hi babelbabe!! I have missed your blog very much! You've left me completely to my own devices in choosing what to read, which pretty much means I resort back to mysteries. Come back! Or just keep stopping by my blog and leaving comments telling me what you are reading. No pressure!
