I turned off the hairdryer a few days ago during the frantic get ready for work rush, expecting shrieking chaos. To my surprise, the house was silent. No yelling, crying, or ominously loud crashes. I stood there for a minute, assessing the situation. My first thought was that the kids had figured out how to undo the gate at the top of the stairs and were now halfway to Florida.
I slowly stepped out of the bathroom and called for Will.
"Where are you guys? Why are you so quiet?"
I heard a giggle and turned my head to the left, to our office nook. To my surprise, both kids were sitting in a chair together...quietly reading books. They were so adorable that I had to take a picture.
A temporary lull in the on going war that pits brother against sister in the battle for control of the toys, but a lull nonetheless. Maybe there is hope for friendship and quieter days ahead!
