Wow. The last two months have flown by, unchronicled!
Hmmmm....let's try again! Is it July already? The last four months have flown by, unchronicled!
What happened? A beautiful spring and early summer, busy, busy times with the kids and family, sheer exhaustion at the end of the day, and most of all, I started back to work in March at my regular post-maternity leave schedule of 30 hours a week.
I had been working about 20 hours since Emma was born, which was perfect. 30 sucks because I am only in the office 3 days a week--the other 6 to 8 hours is done at home. Which was perfectly doable with one child, during naptime or other quiet times. Not so doable with two. I am stressed out all of the time, trying to do too many things at once. But the worst part of it is that it leaves zero time for me to do anything for ME. Like blogging. Or gardening. Or showering. I'm not sure how I'm going to fix this situation, but I need to do something.
So what's been going on since the end of February? Here's the family rundown.
Emma is sleeping through the night. THANK GOD. And the Sleep Lady. Our lives are much improved. She has mastered crawling and quickly moved to pulling herself up. She stands constantly, and I think she'll be walking in no time. She is about the sweetest baby in the world. Her one personality quirk that is driving me crazy is eating. She WILL NOT eat anything that has the slightest bit of texture. She is still only eating the pureed baby foods. With the occasional Cheerio. Anything else is daintily sniffed, maybe licked, and then flung angrily to the floor. It is maddening!
Will is potty trained! It happened in like 2 days. He absolutely refused to do it forever and then one day he wanted to use the toilet and that was it. He still uses a pull-up once in awhile to poop (he has long standing constipation issues and I'm just happy that he poops at all, much less where it happens), but otherwise is out of diapers. He is really into matching his clothes to his moods, or to what he wants to "be" that day; a wolf, a raccoon, a robber, Spiderman...the possibilities are endless. He often walks around in an outfit that is all one color (down to his underwear and socks), with orange safety goggles on, a tail I made for him out of bright green feathers and a red bandanna pulled up over his mouth and nose. And sometimes he is carrying a ninja sword. I'll have to get a picture, because words can't really do it justice.
N. bought a car on Ebay! And then un-bought it when a sensor for the suspension system went on as he was driving away in it from the dealer. If it is too good to be true, it is too good to be true. Lesson learned. He then bought a different car from a dealer in town and we are very happy with it. Although I tell everyone that it is his midlife crisis. He also tore his ACL playing soccer this spring. He's had a small surgery since to repair some cartilage, but the real surgery will be in September. Four weeks on crutches! I am not going to do well with this.
What have I been doing? Besides hating my job, reading lots of great books, and being outside as much as possible, I have been dealing with sick people. N. and his surgery, Emma and a series of colds combined with teething, and then William. Poor, poor Will.
The last two months have been awful for him. It is a very long story, but the gist of it is that the last eight weeks have been very difficult. He ate some nuts while my sister was babysitting (the first time N. and I have been out together since Emma was born!!!!) and had a bad reaction. We found out (after 2 trips to the ER) that he has a possible nut allergy to cashews and pistachios. Possible, but still not a 100% for sure thing, despite allergy tests.
After that incident, he started to develop all sorts of fun problems. Constant coughing, runny nose, and then coughing that turned into severe asthma attacks. It has taken us 6 weeks and MANY visits to many doctors, including one all day visit to the children's hospital where he was put under general anesthesia and had a tube pushed down his throat and into his lungs, to find out that he has chronic sinusitis, and not asthma or a retained piece of nut in his lung. He is on a 20 day course of antibiotics and will probably need more to clear it out of his head. Probably the best possible diagnosis from a long list of scary, life-long illnesses that were in the running, but man. What a ride.
So, I hope that I can get back to a more normal life and spend a little time here once in awhile. I've read some great books that I want to share! We're going on vacation in a week with my parents and then it's Emma's 1st birthday. I should have plenty to write about with all of that. All of this "living" stuff! It's getting in the way of any introspection...probably not a bad thing!
